The story starts with the discovery of a young woman’s body frozen into the ice of a remote mountain stream in Montana. It takes police all night to extract her but no time at all to identify her. Abbie Cooper is wanted for murder and acts of eco-terrorism and her picture is on law enforcement computers all across America. The novel proceeds to trace the trail of events that led this golden child of a loving New York family so tragically astray.
Of my five novels, this is probably the most deeply personal. What is it that went wrong in a partnership that seemed so perfect? It’s the story of a family, all good people, whose lives are fractured by betrayal. As each of them struggles in his or her own way to make sense of what has happened, it charts the passions and needs, the dashed hopes and disillusionments that connect and divide all men and women.
